The Staple Singers – I’ll Take You There (1972)

by admin on January 27, 2012

There are certain songs that were so universally popular that they define moments in our lives. Well the Staple Singers' "I'll Take You There" definitely qualifies as one of those songs. Written by Alvertis Isbell, produced by Al Bell this song was the number one song nationally by June of 1972 and it hasn't stopped playing somewhere since! There sound has never been duplicated and I don't believe it ever will. Here's just a small taste of a classic. Here they are: Pops, Mavis, Cleotha and Yvonne hailing from Chicago by way of Mississippi! The Staple Singers!

I just been watching Miss Congeniality 2 and got hooked on this track…. didn’t know who it was and good old ‘you tube’ came up trumps as usual. What a voice!! Listened to a couple of other tracks…very 70′s….yet contemporary too …am loving it !!

@ladyfuschia What the hell?? The colour of your skin can’t make u better than the way you are… It can’t make u understand music or anything, colour doesn’t do anything!
It’s that attitude that’s wrong, their isn’t a better colour so don’t try to judge yourself or someone else about it!

@jerrynuevo Yeah, it really is a shame. I hate it that so much prejudice and hatred is still happening. It’s a deep and complicated mess that I pray will get worked out someday. Good luck to you!

@benadmin That’d be true if Mavis didn’t jsut win a grammy and is still selling out stadiums with that Wilco dude who produced her last album. Adele is another great example of a similar talent who doesn’t really have the typical popstar image but also won a grammy. I still wonder why Nikka Costa didn’t blow up, her funky songs are so dope, and sadly she eventually did try dumbing her stuff down and slutting up her videos but to no avail, just wasted time when real music could have been made.
